We are pleased to be associated with three parent support ministries in Northern California, who are all member ministries of Restored Hope Network. These ministries hold regular meetings to encourage and pray for parents and their loved ones. When parents find out their child has taken on the homosexual identity it is devastating, especially if they are a Christian family. Homosexuality flies in the face of everything that is good and right from God. You can read more on the subject of Identity from a Christian perspective.
We at New Hope are here to help that parent or family through this difficult time. We can’t fix the homosexual friend or relative, but we can help the one who has come for help.
One thing we can do is to help you understand why you feel the way you do about this discovery. The closer the relationship, the deeper the hurt. Each person feels different because their relationship with the individual is different.
Some of the emotions that friends and family feel are anger, betrayal, guilt and shame. You can read more about the issue of guilt. If it is a very close relationship then there is a grief cycle because something has died; the life you had hoped for (or with) your loved one.
